Real-time elevator report & connection

ELEVATOR NEWS is a platform for connecting residents and security together in the building. On this platform, residents can get the notice from the security so that they can arrange and avoid waiting for a long time in the line to get in the elevator. Security also can get the real time report from the cloud. ELEVATOR NEWS encourages the booking appointment online.

Background

What’s the context of the design?

What’s the context of the design?

  1. The pandemic has led to economic slowdown and widespread anxiety.

  2. A large segment of the global population lives in high-rise residential buildings.

  3. These buildings are mainly occupied by working tenants and young professionals, who are vital to the productivity and future of society.

  4. These residents are exposed to significant health and safety hazards.

  5. Their daily activities, such as departing from and arriving back at home, carry a heightened risk of exposure due to the need to use shared facilities like elevators.

Observation & information collation

Watching people's daily routines to identify common problems they encounter. Taking notes based on these observations and preparing for information design.

Part 1

Part 1

I selected five buildings for observation, monitoring the number of people waiting for the elevator each hour. These buildings are located in various areas, including downtown Toronto, North York, and Oakville. The goal is to compare the differences between different regions. I included both old and new buildings to account for variations in building age.

Part 2

I selected one building and observed the mood of passengers while waiting in line. I conducted this observation over seven days to compare and analyze any variations in the problem. I aimed to understand how the issue differed between weekdays and weekends.

Depending on the age of the building, the older ones tend to have more elevators out of service. Each elevator requires lengthy repair periods, with the longest I encountered being four months.
